History of Mallakhamb is the ancient traditional purely Indian Sport. First time, Mallakhamb was started in Bilaspur since 1988 after the posting of Dr. Rajkumar Sharma as a NIS Gymnastic Coach at University Field Station, Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur (M.P.). First time, All India Inter University Mallakhamb Championships were conducted during 1988-89 at Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur (CG). Again, All India Inter University Mallakhamb Championships, were conducted during 1994-95 at Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur (CG). First time, Chhattisgarh Mallakhamb teams of 32 players were participated in 18th national Mallakhamb Championships held at Jhansi (UP) from 30/12/2000 to 01/01/2001. First time, 32nd Sub-junior & 31st Mini Boys and Girls National Mallakhamb Championships were organized by Chhattiasgarh Mallakhamb Association held at Bilaspur (CG) from 05/03/2020 to 07/03/2020. Now it is popular in many districts. of chhatisgarh. The 05 Khelo India Mallakhamb centre were started in Pamgarh (02), Narayanpur (01), Katghora (01), Bilaspur (01) with the support of MFI and Govt. of India. A total of 96 Mallakhamb Players (M/F) had participated in All India Inter- university Mallakhamb Championships from 1988 to 2021. Mallakahmb was included in Chhattisgarh School State Games since from 2018-2019. Since from 2000-2001, Chhattisgarh State Mallakhamb Teams are taking part in National Mallakhamb Championships (M/F) to till year continuously. Bronze and Silver
medals have won in Pyramids competitions during national Mallakamb Championships in 2001 and 2003 respectively. The golden period was started from
2020 when the sub-junior Mallakhamb players won 07 gold and 01 Bronze medals in Sub-junior national mallakhamb Championships held at Bilaspur (CG). Chhattisgarh State Mallakhamb teams of various age groups are winning medals continuously in National Championships.
